I got this book based on the recommendation of a librarian. In the Woods is the debut novel of Irish author, Tana French. She also has recently written The Likeness which I believe has some of the same characters as this first novel. This is a story that takes place in Ireland. It is a mystery/thriller dealing with police officers trying to solve the murder of a twelve-year old girl. The twist is that one of the officers, Detective Ryan, had grown up in the same neighborhood as the murdered girl, and when he was a child his two best friends disappeared, never to be found again while they were playing together in the woods.
Detective Ryan and his partner, Detective Cassie Maddox, are the only ones who know of his history and his personal link to the case. They are very good friends and work together to try to break this big case. They investigate the family, political involvement that may have been motivation, and an archeological dig that is taking place in the area. I’m not going to ruin the ending but I will say that it was well written and until the end of the book I still was not sure what direction it was going to take. There’s a good balance between the police work and developing the stories of both the present time and the unsolved cold case.
I read this book pretty quickly once I started it. It was entertaining and I wanted to find out who had done it. I’m excited because when I checked this book out I also got The Likeness so now I can look forward to reading that.

I’ve heard good and bad about this book but I really want to read it! I plan on reading it for my R.I.P challenge.
Btw, I catch up on blogs in google reader and I always click on yours without even realizing what blog it is but because the review always interests me! And then when I realize what blog it is I’m like ohhh, ok, makes sense, haha.
